And on any given sunny afternoon, the marina is host to an array of colorful sails moving in, out and about Corpus Christi Bay. Pack a lunch, find a sunny spot, and enjoy the view. Or show up for the  Wednesday night sailboat races and join in onthe fun.

Ingleside

Affordable and Family-Friendly Ingleside is located in the heart of the Coastal Bend, less than 20 miles in any direction from Corpus Christi, Rockport and Port Aransas. Visitors can escape the big city and find new and affordable accommodations, peaceful sunsets, unique dining experiences, awesome park facilities, and friendly residents and merchants. Ingleside’s welcoming average annual temperature of 72 degrees enables many outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, birding, tennis, disc-golf, and biking, N.O. Simmons Skate Park offers a state of the art skate facility, huge covered sports court and covered pavilion with game tables, 7 soccer fields, 2 sand volleyball courts, a Tot-lot playscape, and an 8 foot wide hike/bike/fitness trail surrounding the impressively large complex.

Birders can enjoy viewing and interpretive displays at the Whitney Lake Natural Habitat Area, N.O. Simmons covered birding deck, and Live Oak Park, which is site #55 on the Great Texas Birding Trail. Extended docks over marsh areas and multiple area wetland enhancements bring joy to those seeking glimpses of shorebirds, waterfowl, wading birds and other species. Cove Park, located right on the water offers a free public boat ramp, fishing pier, and picnic areas. The view of Corpus Christi Bay is always breathtaking, but especially at sunset.

Ingleside is home to the T.P. McCampbell Airport located just off Highway 1069 which is the landing spot for many aviation-active fisherman, birders, tourists and professional folks doing business in the area. Ingleside has so much to offer to businesses considering locating in our area, as we are already home to many national companies such as Kiewit Offshore Services, Signet Maritime, DuPont, OxyChem, Air Liquide and more.

Mathis

On Interstate 37 between Corpus Christi and San Antonio, Mathis has a population of about 5000, which can double during summer months. Established in 1885, Mathis is a commercial agriculture center for livestock,
cotton, grain, sorghum, flax and truck crops. A beautiful lakeside city, Mathis is a major gateway to Lake Corpus Christi and to the popular state park on its shores. Families can go camping, fishing, boating and enjoy other outdoor activities. There is bird watching, fishing tournaments and many antique shops to explore.

Festivals and events, restaurants, motels and RV parks add to the mix. Officially named Lake Corpus Christi, the 21,000-acre lake is still known by many locals as Lake Mathis. The state park opened in 1934 and many of the park’s facilities were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, (CCC), in the 1930’s. The present site covers what was the disputed boundary between Texas and Mexico after the Texas Revolution. At the end of the war, the Rio Grande became the boundary. The park provides habitat to black bellied whistling duck, purple gallinule, white winged dove and long billed thrasher plus javelina and white tailed deer

Portland

Portland’s location on two bays provides excellent fishing, boating, sailing, swimming, water skiing and kite surfing. Fronting Corpus Christi Bay and Nueces, the “Gem City of the Gulf Coast” is located seven miles from downtown Corpus Christi and is accessible by two major highways, US Highway 181 and State Highway 35.

Indian Point Fishing Park and Pier is a 333-acre public park that includes Sunset Lake. This ecologically rich
wetland and saltwater lake area—lined by a two mile hike and bike trail—acts as a nesting ground for several
migratory birds. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy birding, fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming and sailing. The pier and park received its name from the Indians who camped on the sandy spot to do their fishing.
Pioneers also used Indian Point as a means of marking the beginning of the Reef Road that snaked its way across Nueces Bay. By following along the series of shallow oyster reefs, wagons and buggies could be driven across the bay at low tide.

Fred Jones Sanctuary, a hidden treasure on the outskirts of Portland, is a botanically rich protected area that is a hot-spot for birders looking for warblers, vireos, orioles and other songbirds during migration. The native vegetation - on an island amidst cultivated fields - acts as a magnet to draw in migratory birds. Spring and fall are excellent times to visit, however, many species inhabit the native brush and trees along the creek year around.

Rockport-Fulton

The Charm of the Texas Coast
Surrounded by the sparkling waters of Copano and Aransas Bays and bathed year-round by soothing Gulf breezes, nestled among ancient, windswept oaks and steeped in a colorful community of cultures,  Rockport-Fulton is in a class of its own. Rockport and Fulton offer some of the best fishing on the coast,
birding opportunities, art galleries, shopping and enjoying the beautiful “Blue Wave” beach. Vacation time is a year-round affair.
